Be the best parent you can be for your adopted child. The agency couldn’t prepare you for post-adoptive parenting, but we can - and that’s why we’re here. Forget the scary stories on the news and Internet. Washing dishes is hard if you are using sand instead of soap and water. When you have the right tools, it’s easier. So, too, is adoptive parenting.

Do you know what you are seeing?

Was your child in an orphanage or baby home after birth? Know what Institutionalization behaviors look like, as well as Sensory Delays, SID and PDD. Was your child in foster care prior to adoption? Be aware of the behaviors of Disordered Attachment and RAD.

Be Proactive.
Early Intervention research shows that it just doesn’t provide for better outcomes for the child, but also, families who were supported earlier were better advocates for their child later on. After we identify behaviors you may be seeing, we’ll talk about which therapies (OT, Speech Pathology, Physical Therapy, Applied Behavioral Therapy etc.) are appropriate for which behaviors. At the conclusion, we’ll have Q&A.

Kris Kahrs and her husband adopted their son, Tommy, at 10 months of age from Vladimir, Russia in 2006. Kris holds a Bachelor degree from Ithaca College. Prior to their son’s adoption, she worked in various business capacities for
USA Networks, NBC and Warner Bros.

"The Show Off" starts at 7pm
(4th Friday of every month)
Are you constantly looking for a new outlet for your kids’ energy? Do you feel like you just need to let go and be silly sometimes yourself?

Grow Kid Grow hosts “The Show Off,” a monthly program where kids and adults can get up and jam with their minds. The program uses interactive improvisational games, hands-on activities and music to explore imagination, creativity, innovation, culture, language and just plain fun! Whether you choose to get up and participate or just sit back and soak it all in, we guarantee a great time for all.

Especially geared toward children aged 3-10 and parents of all ages, but everyone is welcome. Come early for good parking! Snacks served! Hosted by the very cool Joshua Lewis Berg!!

Joshua Lewis Berg, devoted dad and husband, is the CEO (Clown Executive Officer) of KIDding Productions, a company which offers educational and fun entertainment for kids. He has been a performer his whole life, including ten years in New York as a professional actor and six years as a children’s performer in New York and Los Angeles. You may have seen him in various incarnations around town at birthday parties, folding balloons, doing magic or just being his silly self. Joshua’s goal is to help kids learn about their world, find their own voice, and create their own happiness by stimulating their imagination and expanding their minds.

"More Than A Mama" Moms' open forum
(the last Tuesday of every month!)
The show begins at 8 pm; the earlier you arrive, the easier the parking will be. Snacks/wine served. Hosted by the lovely and talented Jane Park Dolan.

Like most of us who take our mothering jobs seriously, you've probably pushed those goals and dreams to the back of your collective unconscious lest you go quietly insane changing diapers and making crustless peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Be quiet no more! We offer you cerebral respite and a safe place to bear your creative bosom. Dust off your short stories, performance pieces, jokes, spoken word poetry, songs or anything you'd like to share with your Mama Brethern (or is that Mrethern?) . Your piece can be about anything... anything at all. We'll have snacks and a little wine to loosen you up. Come join us and remember what it's like to be more than a mama for an evening. Bring your friends.

Thanx for all your support and kindness! We hope to see you really soon!

Missy Gibson, a proud mother of a 3-year-old son, recognized the expense of kids’ clothing and how quickly they grow out of things. In the spirit of recycling, and saving money, Gibson had searched around the city for used children’s clothing stores, but found them far away from her Silver Lake home and often a “hit or miss” situation. Gibson is no stranger to the thrift store business, as she owned and operated her own vintage clothing store in the late 1980s, in her native Michigan. At a holiday party last year, Gibson approached her former sales teammates with an idea to open a kids’ resale store in the neighborhood. After few late-night meetings at The Astro over pie and coffee, the seed was planted.
