“Back To Scraps” Writers Workshop
Sunday, December 11 (mark your calendar!)
7 - 9 pm (second Sunday eve of each month!)
Hosted by the ever inspiring Jen Hitchcock!
Anyone & everyone is invited to attend! Snacks and
drinks will be served.
Somewhere between becoming a mom and a corporate wanker, I stopped jotting down my ideas, and ultimately, stopped writing. The notebooks and folders stuffed full of receipts, post-it notes and scraps of paper with a few words or sentences scribbled on them all held the potential to be flushed out into finished pieces, and often were. Back to Scraps is a workshop meant to help us all keep full these containers that may contain a fragment of what will become our next great piece of writing.
Back To Scraps is open to writers of all pedigree, looking for a creative and welcoming place to come, put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and let flow whatever may flow (as long as it doesn’t require much cleanup). Join us for a night of fun, engaging and constructive writing exercises meant to foster new writing ideas and generally spark your creative mind.
Jen Hitchcock is a writer who doesn’t do nearly enough writing anymore. As a freelance journalist she has had her writing published in a multitude of mostly now defunct magazines and fanzines —most notably in the LA WEEKLY, and least notably, in her self-published fanzine ZYZXX. She is horrible at spelling and even more despicable with all things grammatical.
****Umm ... Jen wrote this Bio herself, but I, Missy will confess to you that I know Jen because I wrote her a fan letter after being turned onto ZYZXX when I first moved to LA in 1996. Jen also has a blog and new podcast, well worth checking out- www.zyzxxzine.com. I am a huge fan and am LOVING this workshop!! Hope you will join us!

GKG Holiday Hours!
This year we will be keeping our regular hours with a couple of exceptions … We will stay open an additional hour if folks are still shopping at closing time. In other words, we’ll be playing it by ear a bit.
We will however be closed on Christmas day, Dec 25 and the following day, Dec 26. We will reopen on Dec 27. We will also be closing early (4 pm) on Dec 31 and will remain closed on New Year’s Day, Jan 1. We will reopen on Jan 2. Thank you for your understanding.
Thanx to Julie & to those of you who joined us for the SPECIAL SCRUFFIN ROCK CHILDREN’S DRESS PROMOTION & SING ALONG back in early November. We hope to have Julie back in the new year for sure!
Just a reminder- not only do we have some great holiday dresses and suits available, but also snow suits, ski jackets & snow boots. Also, don’t forget, we have new stuff as well as used, so keep us in mind for your gift-giving needs. Check out our recent shipments of “Melissa and Doug” toys and puzzles and more, as well as great “Schylling” toys. We even offer FREE gift wrapping! Check at Grow Kid Grow first and save yourself the trouble of the holiday mall rush!
We're still buying for fall and winter. If you'd like to make an appointment to sell some of your kid's stuff, please give us a call- we book all appointments by phone only. We're always lookin' for great stuff!! If it's only 1 small brown paper grocery bag (and PLEASE don't cheat!), feel free to drop it by anytime. If we have time to look at it while you wait, we will. Otherwise we'll have you just drop it off with your name and ph # and we'll get back to with our cash or credit terms within a few days.
Wishing you and yours all the best this holiday season. Thank you for your continued support – we’re grateful.
Very truly yours,
Missy, Jonathan and Mark

THE INSPIRATION:
Missy Gibson, a proud mother of a 5-year-old son, recognized the expense of kids’ clothing and how quickly they grow out of things. In the spirit of recycling, and saving money, Gibson had searched around the city for used children’s clothing stores, but found them far away from her Silver Lake home and often a “hit or miss” situation. Gibson is no stranger to the thrift store business, as she owned and operated her own vintage clothing store in the late 1980s, in her native Michigan. At a holiday party in 2009, Gibson approached her former sales teammates with an idea to open a kids’ resale store in the neighborhood. After few late-night meetings at The Astro, over
pie and coffee, the seed was planted.
